TO SPONSOR TEEN STRAIGHT TALK
WHEN: Noon-4 p.m., Saturday (March 28)
WHERE: Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Academic Classroom
Building,
Fourth Street and Indiana Avenue.
EVENT: Teen Straight Talk is a free program designed to motivate adults and
their children to talk about topics such as abstinence, teen pressures, sex
education and responsible decision making.
Sessions will be presented by health care professionals and are sponsored by
the Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
Black Faculty and Staff Association and the Teen Straight Talk Committee.
Free informational goodie bags and books will be distributed and community
programs will have booths to explain their available resources. Mary Jo
Rapini, M.D., and Janie J. Sherman, authors of “Start Talking – A Girl’s
Guide for You and Your Mom about Health, Sex, or Whatever” will be on hand
to talk to parents and teenage girls.
In addition, representatives from the Texas Tech University College of
Psychology and the College of Human Development and Family Studies will be
at the event to talk to participants one on one about pressures and
communication.
