Children’s Advocacy Center Unites Entire Community to Stand up for Kids
LUBBOCK – The Children’s Advocacy Center of the South Plains invites the
entire community to join together to Stand up for Kids and Break the Cycle
of Abuse and be part of this unique child abuse awareness event, Saturday,
April 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Miller Park located outside the Loop at
South Loop 289 between Quaker and Indiana.
The event goal is to bring together 1081 adults to stand together for one
hour to create a visual representation of the number of children who
received services from the agency in 2008. Participants will stand and hold
a special sign signifying the age and gender of an actual child victim of
abuse. Event t-shirts will be on sale and you can pre-register at area
United Supermarkets Saturday, March 28 from 10 to 4 or all week at the
Children’s Advocacy Center. Event shirts will also be available the day of
the event. This event is meant to focus attention on the overwhelming number
of children who are abused each day in Lubbock and surrounding communities
and raise much needed funds for the center.
Entertainment includes Stolle&Rose, Kenny Maines, and Junior Vasquez. Free
hot dogs and drinks will be served.
The Children’s Advocacy Center of the South Plains opened its doors in April
of 1998 and since that date has provided services to over 8,100 children.
The center provides forensic interviews of abused children, free therapy for
child victims of abuse, family advocacy, court room accompaniment and
preparation, and community education about child abuse.
