Groundswell of Support for Kay Bailey Hutchison
Today is a great day for the Kay Bailey Hutchison campaign and I wanted to share the news with all our supporters. We are thrilled to announce our fundraising totals for the reporting period.
We raised an astonishing $6.7 million.
This outpouring of support came from over 6,500 donors across Texas. Donations came from 231 counties and almost 80 percent of Kay’s fundraising total comes from donations of $500 or less. Nearly 1,000 donors contributed online at www.texansforkay.com. This is a true cross section of Texas, showing the great grassroots support that is standing strong for Kay.
Today’s announcement of fundraising numbers officially closes the first phase of the campaign. While phase one of the campaign was designed to ensure we have the resources to deliver Kay’s conservative message to voters across our state, it is now time to begin delivering that message.
Kay will formally announce her candidacy in August, where she will lay out her positive vision for Texas and today she started the conversation as to what she’ll be focused on during the race.
…Texas has always been the greatest state in the country to make a living and raise a family. But on key challenges like property taxes, education, private property rights, transportation, utility rates, insurance rates and health care; we need results, not politics. I’m running for Governor because I love Texas and I know we can do better.
I’ve spoken with people from El Paso to Beaumont, Amarillo to McAllen and the one thing I hear over and over is: it is time for a change. Texas needs a leader for the future.
We need a transportation system that keeps up with the growth in Texas, but at the same time respects private property rights.
We need to prepare our children for the high paying jobs of tomorrow by giving them the best education in the country and reducing the dropout rates in high schools.
Thousands of people move to Texas each week because it is a great place to raise a family, but we have to make sure they can afford to stay in their homes. Our property taxes are the highest in the nation and we have to help ease that burden.
Texas is the best state in the union but we also have a lot of work to do in order to keep it that way. It is time for results, not politics…
Thanks to everyone who has joined Team Kay since January. We have over 15,000 volunteers who have signed up to be a part of our campaign, nearly 6,000 people have created a profile on the Kay Network and thousands of supporters are following us on Facebook and Twitter.
