TEXAS OUTDOOR FAMILY AT COPPER BREAKS
QUANAH, TX. -If you would like to go camping but never had
the chance, Copper Breaks state Park will offer that
opportunity on Saturday November 7 and Sunday, November 8,
2009, through the Texas Outdoor Family program.
No experience or equipment is necessary. For a low $55.00
for a family of up to six people, participants will be
provided a full set of camping gear including tent, cook
stove, cook ware and dishes, lantern, mats and pads, and a
coffee maker. Copper Breaks State Park rangers and
volunteers will teach how to set up and break down camp,
build a camp fire, and cook outdoors. Staff and
volunteers will also offer popular park programs such as
“Meet the Longhorns” and the award-winning StarWalk on
Saturday evening, November 7. In addition, there will be
introductions to “leave no trace” camping, identification
of outdoor night sounds, use of GPS (global positioning
satellite) in geocacheing, hiking, and orienteering.
Sunday morning, November 8, park staff and volunteers
assist campers in preparing breakfast and striking camp
after coffee with the rangers. Coffee with the rangers
offers a friendly opportunity for questions, further
discussion, and finding out about the conservation
profession.
“In our increasingly urban society, many people have never
had the opportunity to learn some of the skills enjoyed by
earlier generations of Texans. The Texas Outdoor Family
workshop offers a supportive environment where families
can get started in a safe and comfortable setting,” said
park manager David D. Turner.
