Congressman Randy Neugebauer issued a statement this afternoon, responding to the legislation unveiled by House Democrats which would increase the role of government in the nation’s health care system. The legislation would impose penalties on employers who don’t provide health insurance to their employees, and penalties on individuals who don’t buy it. The bill would require insurance companies to offer coverage, without exceptions or higher premiums in cases of pre-existing conditions, and allow the government to sell insurance in competition with private firms. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the house will pass the bill before the August recess. Congressman Neugebauer said that he believes “the people of the 19th Congressional district deserve a health care model that provides choice, not a government takeover that will raise taxes and let government bureaucrats make decisions that should be made by families and their doctors.”
